Group Classes: Energising but Limited
After 25+ years of teaching classes, I can confidently say that I still love the energy, variety, and inclusivity that comes with group sessions. They bring people together, they’re accessible, and the content we deliver is powerful.
But I’ll be honest — I’ve also felt something missing at times.
Even in our relatively small group sessions of 6–8 people, my time and attention are still divided. I carefully design classes to support everyone in the room, but the experience can still feel a little diluted. There are moments when someone clearly needs more support, but I can’t provide it without disrupting the class flow. That’s often left me frustrated — I want to do more, but the format doesn’t always allow it.
The Value and Limits of 1-to-1 Coaching
On the flip side, I’ve spent years delivering one-to-one coaching. It’s essential — especially for clients who are just starting out, managing injuries, or learning the foundations of movement. These sessions offer the kind of personalised support that’s incredibly impactful.
However, as clients begin to master the basics, their needs evolve.
They need more challenge. More accountability. More momentum.
And sometimes — a little less comfort.
Over time, both coach and client can start leaning into familiar routines. Sessions may shift toward what feels good rather than what’s actually needed. Progress slows. We’ve even caught ourselves thinking, “Well, they’re paying — let’s give them what they enjoy.” But that mindset can hinder real growth.
Discovering the Magic of Semi-Private Coaching
That’s when I found myself craving a better solution — something more sustainable than private lessons, but still highly personalised.
Enter semi-private training — and honestly, it’s brought me the most joy in my coaching career.
I get genuinely excited when working with these smaller groups. I can focus more deeply on each individual, helping them work through limitations and grow in ways that just aren’t possible in larger sessions.
Why Semi-Private Training Works
Semi-private coaching offers the best of both worlds:
âś… Personalised attention without the time constraints of a big class
âś… A small group dynamic that builds confidence and consistency
✅ Tailored progression that meets each client exactly where they’re at
âś… A sustainable model that leads to deeper, long-term results
It allows me to teach with the detail and purpose I love. My clients feel supported, understood, and part of a motivated, like-minded group. They encourage one another. They show up. And they grow — in confidence, in strength, and in understanding of their own needs.
The Bottom Line
In this space, less truly becomes more — and the results speak for themselves.
If you’re looking for something more tailored than group classes, but more cost-effective and energising than 1-to-1 coaching, semi-private training might be exactly what you need.
